This bit makes a big deal out of Obama not personally denouncing a talk show host, but I think that’s pretty small potatoes. What I think is genuinely illegitimate is this:
In Missoula, Obama repeated his warning — which has been challenged as inaccurate by some news reports — that McCain has said he wants to keep the war in Iraq going another 100 years. McCain is a “great American hero,” Obama said, but he “wants to continue this war in Iraq, maybe for 100 years.”
Obama is so misrepresenting McCain that this can only be called a lie. For all the talk about Hillary’s Bosnia lie, that was pretty tangential to any actual issue. Here is Obama, who is constantly hailed by everybody as being fair to his opponents, twisting McCain’s actual words beyond recognition as a part of his standard stump speech. He was called out on this well over a week ago, yet he’s still keeping it up.
I will issue the following warning: If you think President Obama will usher in an era of political cooperation and bipartisanship, you will be as disappointed as those of us who thought President Bush might hold the line on spending.
