I don’t buy that one bit. Ever since his 2004 convention speech, a point in time when I can’t imagine email “smears” were circulating about him, Obama has done quite a bit to emphasize his religion. He’s done quite a bit to rally the religious left to him, and he’s gone on at length about how Democrats need to talk about religion more. The secret Muslim emails are a completely different issue than Obama’s longstanding effort to emphasize his religion.
This is what happens when a candidate decides to use religion to his advantage. Though I’m no longer convinced this is a smart move for Obama, since people now know about the church he went to.
