The West Virginia exit polls asked voters how much they’ve been affected by “the recession.” 89% said that “the recession” had some or a great deal of effect on them. That’s amazing, since there is no recession.

Do we have state data available? We’re not in a recession nationwide, but it’s very possible that WV contracted over the last two quarters.
Even though West Virginia is frequently a mess, its unemployment rate is at 4.7%, well below a genuinely struggling state like Michigan’s 7.2%.
Wait, we’ve been subjected to a week’s worth of reports about how the awful state of the economy in West Virginia has led the locals to turn to Mrs. Clinton out of frustration, but their unemployment rate is below the national average? There was even an episode of Bones a few weeks ago about how no one in West Virginia has a job. Why would TV lie to me?
I couldn’t find GDP growth numbers by state for this most recent quarter.
